At the first sign of a scratch, check to see if there is a dent. When a dent is accompanied with a scratch, it may need to be repaired by a professional. It is also important that your touch-up paint matches your vehicle's exterior color. Look for your vehicle's color code near the VIN on the dash, the firewall, or your owner's manual.
Always clean the scratch with warn soap and water before applying the touch-up paint. Use a sandpaper that is at least 220 grit. When the scratch is deep, it is suggested to use a primer. While you should still use a 220 grit sandpaper for preparing the surface of deeper scratches, sandpaper that is at least 600 grit should be used when sanding the primer.
