Redesigned inside, outside, and under the hood, the 2020 Ford Explorer takes on life's challenges with ease. With room for up to seven passengers and almost two-and-a-half cubic meters of cargo space, the new Explorer gets the kids to the game or the boat to the lake with room to spare. A plush, tech-filled cabin makes the Explorer perfect for a night on the town, as well. Entertainment
A six-speaker AM/FM/CD stereo system with MP3 capability comes standard on XLT trims. Limited, ST, and Platinum editions get an upgraded 10-speaker B&O Sound System by Bang & Olufsen. All 2020 Explorer models also come standard with factory-installed SiriusXM Satellite Radio, FordPass Connect - which includes a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot - and dual second-row smart-charging USB ports. SYNC 3 lets drivers pair with their cell phones to make calls, play music, and get driving directions, just by using voice commands.
Technology
Technology highlights on the Explorer include voice-activated navigation (optional on XLT models, standard on all others), Active Park Assist 2.0, and Ford's infotainment and connectivity system - SYNC 3. With the push of a button, Active Park Assist makes parking a breeze. An available 10.1-inch colour touchscreen display makes navigating menus a snap. A 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, when paired with the FordPass App, lets owners remotely start the vehicle, lock and unlock the Explorer's doors, and even check its fuel level, right from the app.
All 2020 Ford Explorers come with Ford's MyKey technology that allows owners to program each key with customized settings such as the audio system's maximum volume, or the Explorer's maximum speed.
Interior
Standard or available interior highlights include Intelligent Access with push-button start, tri-zone electronic temperature control including rear auxiliary climate control, remote start, heated and cooled premium cloth, or leather-appointed seating, and a leather-wrapped, heated steering wheel with built-in cruise and audio controls. Convenience features include second-row captain seats with power-assist fold, Ford's Easy Fuel capless fuel filler, and a first-row centre floor console with ample storage.
Performance
Every new Explorer comes with Ford's Terrain Management System with Intelligent 4WD. The class-exclusive system lets drivers shift between four driving modes - Normal, Mud/Ruts, Sand, and Grass/Gravel/Snow - to best handle current road conditions.
XLT and Limited models come from the factory with a 2.3L EcoBoost engine, while ST and Platinum trims get a larger 3.0L EcoBoost engine. Both engines get paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission with SelectShift capability. Ford also offers Limited models with a 3.3L Hybrid Engine.
Safety
Included on every new Explorer, Ford's Co-Pilot 360 Technology features Hill Start Assist, a rearview camera, and rain-sensing wipers. A full suite of airbags, including Ford's Safety Canopy Side-Curtain Airbag system, Ford's SOS Post-Crash Alert System, and configurable daytime running lights also come standard on every new Ford Explorer.
